But at a recent industry discussion, an argument surfaced that gets you surprisingly close to that territory. A question was raised about who is supposed to pay for keeping you safe, and who is answerable when you aren't.

The risks we used to talk about as far-off "what ifs" are here now. There have been real cases of advanced AI breaking out of the safe, walled-off environments where it's tested — finding weaknesses no one knew about, tricking real people, and getting out into the open internet. That kills the reassuring old line that "AI just makes attacks faster, not smarter." When something can launch thousands of attacks in minutes, fast is smart.
